Stage Zero cancer refers to the presence of disease as detected by liquid biopsy, but prior to the presentation of clinically assessed cancer via PET/CT or MRI scans, or via tissue biopsy.
While using blood tests to detect disease is not particularly new or novel, applying this to detecting cancer prior to its presentation clinically, is relatively new.
Liquid Biopsy refers to using a blood test to gain an insight into the state of cancer, in a similar fashion to extracting a tissue sample and performing a pathological analysis on it would.
Interestingly, the body of research which attempts to tackle the detection of cancer very early on is populated with some fascinating insights.
